Woodlawn Gateway at 67th by Erica Hawkinson

Description: GSM worked with youth from Woodlawn community groups plus hundred of volunteers from throughout the city to transform this space. Spanning the length of a Metra underpass in the center of Woodlawn, this gateway mural incorporates musical imagery that reflects the community's jazz legacy as well as floral motifs that represent the Woodlawn Botanical Garden.

This project was featured on NBC's Making a Difference segment in August 2016!

Blair Early Childhood Center by Erica Hawkinson

Description: Blair Early Elementary Center serves students ages 3-6 years old with disabilities including developmental delays, autism, and severe/profound cognitive impairments. This mural beautifies their outdoor garden and play space with a colorful scene of nature. The flower petals were individually hand-sculpted by the students.

Englewood Metra Underpass at 63rd and Wallace by Amanda Martinez

Description: GSM worked with Teamwork Englewood and residents to create the design for a public art project on 63rd and Wallace. After a series of meetings where neighbors of all ages contributed suggestions for themes and ideas to include, GSM presented two designs which were voted on by the community. The winning design was installed by our team of Teaching Artists and Interns, along with Teen Apprentices from the community, and 100+ volunteers from near and far. Situated on the busy thoroughfare of 63rd St, the mural welcomes passersby with vibrant, positive imagery showcasing the diversity and beauty of Englewood.

Joplin Elementary by Erica Hawkinson

Participants: 280 [4th-8th grade students]
Description: In 2015 Green Star Movement worked with 4th-8th grade students to create a mural which fuses representations of African culture with the phrase "what we do most is what we do best. Get an education." In 2017, in honor of Joplin Elementary's academic diversity, we returned to create another mural that pays tribute to the school's science, technology, and fine arts programs.

CTA Red Line - Thorndale Station by Erica Hawkinson

Description: Located at the street level entrance for the Thorndale Red Line stop, the mural showcases the Chicago skyline and illustrates its nickname, "The Windy City."
